Help the FCC Improve the New National Broadband Map
Attendees are encouraged to bring a device to this session.

The FCC has a new map showing where internet service is – and is not – available across the country, down to the location level. Among other uses, the map will guide the distribution of the Digital Equity Act (DEA) and Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program funds to states. This session will provide an overview of the map and how you can participate in disputing or challenging information shown on the map. An accurate map is an important tool for helping to identify the unserved and underserved communities most in need of funding for high-speed internet infrastructure investment. We encourage session attendees to view the map online in advance of the session: www.broadbandmap.gov and explore more about the FCC’s mapping efforts by visiting: www.fcc.gov/BroadbandData/consumers

Key Takeaways:
  • Understanding what the National Broadband Map shows and how to engage with the information on the map
  • Familiarity with the various data sets that feed into the map
  • Ideas and best practices for navigating the challenge and crowdsource processes, including strategies for local organizations to engage community members in checking the map and submitting challenges
